Free Practice 2 of the United States Grand Prix has been marked by the incident between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen . The latter did not hesitate to reproach the attitude of the Mercedes driver, whom he called an ” idiot ” on the radio. As for the Spanish riders, Fernando Alonso suffered a breakdown in the first practice session held in Austin. Fortunately for him, Alpine was able to repair his car and successfully completed, in thirteenth position, FP2. Carlos Sainz , meanwhile, was ninth, although he finished fifth in FP1, confirming his good feelings for the race.

The fight for the Formula 1 World Championship is red hot and this was demonstrated by Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in the second practice session of the United States Grand Prix . The Briton, who faces the race 6 points behind the Red Bull driver, started running to catch up with Verstappen on the final stretch. This led the Dutchman to abort his return and to dedicate a comb to his rival. ” Ha stupid idiot, ” was what he said in reference to Hamilton .

In both sessions Lewis Hamilton was ahead of Max Verstappen . In Free Practice 1, the seven-time champion recorded the second fastest time behind teammate Valtteri Bottas. Verstappen was third ahead of the two Ferraris, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were fourth and fifth respectively.

A rough Friday for Alonso

Fernando Alonso was fifteenth. The Asturian was only able to roll twelve laps in the first practice session after suffering a breakdown in his car that led to a red flag. Everything was in a scare that kept him for 12 minutes in the garage. Apparently, the fault was caused by a poorly adjusted cuff.

Fernando Alonso has not won for startles in Austin since in Free 2 he lost control of the car and went against the protections. Fortune again smiled at Oviedo, who was able to continue rolling until the end of the session, which ended in thirteenth place.

Alonso and Ocon, out of the Top-10

The session was less rugged for his partner Esteban Ocon. Even so, the Frenchman did not manage to sneak into the Top-10 either. He was twelfth in FP1 and eleventh in FP2. The second practice session was led by Sergio Pérez . Lando Norris was second to Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen couldn’t help but be eighth, just ahead of Carlos Sainz.
