The drivers’ championship for the 2022 Formula 1 season has a name and surname: Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has such a large income that he could be crowned for the second consecutive time at the Singapore Grand Prix in just a few weeks, but first he will have to face the race at Monza, where he receives a five-position penalty for changing the internal combustion engine of his RB18.

On Friday in Italy, the Red Bull had two free practice sessions to find the ideal configuration for his car, with which he already has ten victories, although he must pay attention to the locals, Ferrari.

The team from Maranello took the top positions in both practices, with Charles Leclerc first and Carlos Sainz later, which caused the journalists to put on the table if the reigning world champion was worried about the Prancing Horse ‘s form.

“It seems to be going well. I’m not worried, but we still have to finalize some things,” Verstappen replied. “If you look at the long runs, I think we’re pretty good, and that’s of course the most important thing for the race.”

“I think the car was pretty good, I’ve only tested a few things from FP1 to FP2 to understand if they could be done better. Some worked, some didn’t, and we only did the testing for the race where we have the small penalty. everything seems to be working quite well,” acknowledged the Red Bull Dutchman.

The world leader dominated in the last test on a circuit with similar characteristics, in Spa-Francorchamps, but remains cautious about a possible victory: “There are still some things we can do better, but of course Monza is not like Spa in terms of runway design.

“Of course we have little downforce, but we never expect it to be like Spa, and if we can find a way, even if it’s half of Belgium, I think we have a good chance,” said the Dutch driver.
