Video: Ferrari starts the engine of its 2022 F1 for the first time

The Ferrari team has completed the ignition of the engine of its new single-seater, the F1-75, which will be presented on February 17 at 2:00 p.m. in Spanish peninsular time. Those from Maranello reported that their power unit roared for the first time shortly after five in the afternoon at their factory.

 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only Mattia Binotto and some of the Italian team’s staff were present during this important moment. The rest of the workers of the most successful team in the history of Formula 1 followed the ignition of the engine called 066/7 for 30 seconds through the computer screens in various departments.

“It’s a very special moment, more so than similar occasions in previous campaigns,” Binotto said. “The F1-75 is a completely new car, and it is the culmination of a journey we started together a few years ago, working together as a team.”

This will be the car with which Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will face their second year as teammates at Ferrari, and will try to return the Cavallino to the top of the general classification in Formula 1.

Last season, this duo managed to be the most consistent on the grid, managing to finish in the points zone in 19 of the 22 races with both cars, which helped them to reach third place overall, beating McLaren , his great rival, by 48.5 points.

The Spanish driver was fifth, with 164.5 points, while the Monegasque added 160, and between them they climbed to the podium five times, in addition to adding two consecutive pole positions, in Monaco and Baku.

Those from Maranello named their F1-75 in honor of the company’s anniversary because on March 12, 1947, Enzo Ferrari , founder of the team, started the engine of the 125 S for the first time, and they will put it on the track in the Barcelona tests.
