After seeing that the changes in Albert Park had paid off with a much faster track and more overtaking possibilities, the percentage of seeing an accident in the first few laps was quite high and it was not necessary to wait long.

However, the first accident of the day did not come through any contact between several drivers. Carlos Sainz lost control of his Ferrari SF-75 in one of the fastest corners on the circuit, spinning and getting stuck in the gravel with no chance of getting back on track.

At the start, the Spanish Ferrari driver had problems with his car again and was stuck in his starting position, losing several positions and falling back to the back of the peloton, some setbacks that the Madrid driver has been suffering since qualifying.

After the incident, Carlos Sainz radioed for the help of the stewards, since his car was still working, however, when trying to get out of the gravel by accelerating as quickly as possible, his rear tires dug a hole in the escape route of what was already impossible to get out

Quickly and to avoid greater evils, from the Ferrari wall the Spanish driver received a radio message to turn off the engine and finally say goodbye to the race.

In this way, the driver from Madrid suffered his first abandonment of the 2022 Formula 1 season, a serious blow considering that this year he does have a car to fight for the title, as shown by his teammate Charles Leclerc, the current leader of the championship.

If he wants to hit the table and turn the situation around, Sainz will be forced to react in the next races, which will take place in Emilia Romagna, Miami and Spain.
