The first free practice session of the 2022 F1 Japanese Grand Prix had already ended when Mick Schumacher crashed into the tire barrier in his Haas. The clock had already reached the scheduled time to end the practice when the drivers, after spending the last ten minutes inside the garage due to the return of the strong water, took the opportunity to go out on the track to test outings with the compounds of extreme rain.

The German driver was on his way back to the garage when he suffered aquaplaning on the Suzuka track, lost control of his car and hit the tire barrier. As expected, the weekend in Japan started with heavy rain and low temperatures of around 15º C, slightly higher than the 12º C on the track.

It should be noted that the German was wearing heavy rain tires at the time of the accident, although before the crash, most of the drivers had already tested the intermediate tires on their cars because they understood that the asphalt did not have large points of accumulation of water in some places. This meant that Fernando Alonso was the fastest at the end of the first free practice session with his Alpine, since nobody improved their times.

However, when the intensity of the water increased again in the final moments of the first practice in Japan, the track became complicated again, which caused the accident of a Mick Schumacher who was wearing a new helmet on his first contact with the legendary circuit. Japanese in which his father, Michael , is the most successful driver of all time with six victories.
