Visiting Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch

0

For those interested in the artist Georgia O’Keeffe or the natural beauty of New Mexico, a visit to the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu will provide the opportunity to enjoy the landscapes that Georgie O’Keeffe painted.

Ghost Ranch now

Ghost Ranch, a Presbyterian Church retreat and education center, offers simple accommodations, dining, and educational programs to groups and the public. Elder Hostels, for example, are held on the premises.

In addition to the housing in the retreat center, the property has Casitas that can be reserved. Open from May to early October. $ 55 per person, per day for the first two people, then meals only for the next three. The casitas are adobe structures that can accommodate 2-5 people in twin beds and bunk beds with wonderful views of the red rock tables and the proximity to the Box Canyon Trail.

You can also camp at Ghost Ranch. Open from mid-May to early October, the campsite offers RV (hookups available) and tent camping.

Georgia O’Keeffe Ghost Ranch Tour and Ghost Ranch Views

Unfortunately, O’Keeffe’s home at Rancho de los Burros at Ghost Ranch is not open to the public. You can check out the donkeys at Ghost Ranch already, but you won’t go anywhere near the house. For a wonderful tour of Georgia O’Keeffe’s home, make plans to visit her home in the town of Abiquiu.

O’Keeffe Ghost Ranch Paisaje Tour

One of the highlights on any tour of O’Keeffe Country is seeing the beautiful landscapes that he loved and painted. On the short van tour, you’ll stop at the key sites where O’Keeffe painted and enjoy comparing impressions of his artwork against the distant landscape. O’Keeffe fans can look out over the vast landscape and identify the red and gray hills, the red and yellow cliffs, and Flint, the flat-topped mountain to the south.

Tours run mid-March through mid-November on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, weather permitting. They leave at 1:30 pm. The tour takes about an hour and costs $ 25. You must have a reservation. Call 1.877.804.4678, extension 0.

Touring the grounds

Be sure to spend some time touring the grounds at Ghost Ranch. There are historic buildings, the most beautiful sights in New Mexico, and a nice gift shop where you can buy Georgia O’Keeffe books and cards. I bought a Ghost Ranch cap there that always reminds me of my travels across O’Keeffe country.
