Viva Air opens Medellín – Cancun route and inaugurates connection center

The low-cost airline Viva Air opened its new hub in Medellín on Wednesday, a hub from where it hopes to deploy its international strategy. This within the framework of the launch of its new brand ‘Viva’.

The first direct international route from this hub will be Medellín – Cancun . With it, the airline’s growth plans begin, which plans to open 15 new international routes in the next three years to North America, South America and the Caribbean.

The Medellín – Cancun route will have three flights a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday . The company expects 35,000 passengers to be handled during the first year.

“Our Hub Medellín’s principle is to connect people and make them feel like they have the world at their fingertips. The consolidation of this project will change the history of Medellín, of the José María Córdova Airport, and will make the capital of Antioquia the axis of connections between the country and the continent, ”said Félix Antelo, CEO of Grupo Viva.

For her part, Sara Ramírez, General Manager of Airplan assured that “this new project will allow our passengers to communicate with more destinations directly, allowing Antioqueños and all Colombians greater possibilities of connectivity with the world. We congratulate Viva, we celebrate with her the opening of the direct route to Cancun, a magical destination, and we will receive them with all the biosecurity measures, since we have the quality seals “Check in Certified” and “SafeGuard” as a guarantee protection of health and life in this time of pandemic.

This joins other international routes that will operate soon:

  • Medellín – Orlando, which will operate from June 10 with three weekly flights.
  • Medellín – Mexico City, which will be enabled at the beginning of August with four weekly flights

This year, the Rionegro hub and airport will connect directly with five international destinations ( Lima, Miami, Orlando, Cancun and Mexico City ) and nine national ones. In the future, they plan to operate direct flights to more international destinations, such as New York or Buenos Aires.
