Volaris announced its proposal to open a new route from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) to Los Angeles, California, which would become the first international route operated by a Mexican airline.
"This route is a business decision based on the potential market surrounding the AIFA and will be additional to the current offer that Volaris has at the Mexico City International Airport," the airline said in a statement.
The opening of the route is still subject to Mexico regaining Category 1 air safety, after it was downgraded to Category 2 after an audit by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
