The Valentino Rossi team announced its jump to MotoGP in 2022 and will have two Ducati , which will be for Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi – which has not yet been made official. However, VR46’s entry into the premier class has been plagued by controversy surrounding its title sponsor, Saudi oil company Aramco .
The company has sent two statements to Motorsport.com since then denying any involvement with VR46 and Tanal Entertainment – who announced the deal – and the company’s CEO spoke to the same effect at the Dutch GP in June.
When Pablo Nieto was asked by Motorsport.com during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix what the latest status of the agreement between VR46 and Aramco was, he replied: “As you know, in the past we reached this agreement with Aramco.”
“Things are going very, very slow, but we are on the road. That is the most important thing, we have to keep working and at this moment what I can say is that we are working on it. There are some delays, but we are on the road and We keep working,” he insisted.
VR46 has yet to confirm the signing of Bezzecchi and no comment was made over the weekend to keep the focus on Rossi’s final race in Italy.
“We are excited because in the end we came with our own team completely from scratch,” added Nieto.
“We started a very, very nice project. As everyone knows, we already know the drivers, but this weekend is an important weekend for us, for the family, because it is the Valentino weekend.”
“So we don’t want to say anything about that [the 2022 rider line-up]. But everyone knows the riders that are going to be in MotoGP and Moto2.
“We have to learn to improve, because it’s a new challenge for us. But I think we have very good support from Ducati, we came here to do very good things.”
