Sexual addiction, also called sexual dependence, hypersexuality , nymphomania (in women), satiriasis (in men), compulsive sexual behavior or sexual compulsivity, refers to the phenomenon in which individuals are unable to control their sexual behavior .
This abnormally intense need for sex that affects any aspect of the sufferer's daily life (relationships, work …) is preceded by self-stimulation or compulsive masturbation, multiple sexual partners in one night , as well as several sexual partners at the same time. Once , persistent use of pornography , cybersex, prostitution, exhibitionism, voyeurism, sexual harassment …
But what causes it? No expert can agree on why some people become addicted to sex, but increasingly they support the theory that sex addiction may be related to a biochemical abnormality or certain chemical changes in the brain. Just as there is a survival and reward mechanism in our brain regarding food or drugs, there may be a common pathway regarding interest in sex.
Some studies have suggested that lesions in the medial prefrontal cortex of the brain lead to compulsive sexual behavior . In the same way, people from dysfunctional families or victims of abuse are the individuals most likely to fall into this disorder of a sexual nature.
