What did you put in your cereal? Profeco confirms list of milks that are NOT milk

0

The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office ( Profeco ) warned about the consumption of cow’s milk by companies that claim they are, but in reality do not meet the specifications required to be.

In its most recent study published in the June Consumer magazine, the agency detailed that it is a study of 20 brands, some of which actually contain soy and vegetable fat.

Qualities such as the amount of protein, amount and type of fat, lactose, caloric intake, density, net content and non-fat solids were analyzed in the Profeco laboratories, in addition to what is offered on the label.

Which brands do not deliver what they promise?

  • Querétaro brand milk: Offers 75 milliliters less than declared.
  • The 19 brothers: They contain less product than declared. In addition to ensuring that it is milk, when in fact it is a mixture of milk with vegetable fat.
  • Lala 100 Fresca: does not comply with the Mexican Official Standard that is marketed as fresh milk, low in fat or with minimum densities, but does not comply with what was promised.
  • Lala 100 Fresca lactose-free: Does not comply with the content of non-fat solids and the minimum density established by the standards.

Profeco suggested to the consumer that they must determine what type of product they will consume because milk, dairy product and combined dairy product are not the same.

Milk: Although it has a typical composition, commercial products are allowed to modify the fat content, so there are whole, semi-skimmed, partially skimmed and skimmed milks.

Dairy product: They are made from the ingredients of milk, and contain vegetable fat, which must be specified with the percentage on the label.
