On December 28, Octavio Romero Oropeza, CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), announced that Gas Bienestar would lower its prices as of this first week of January 2022.
According to the Pemex director, the cost of this fuel in Mexico is due to the international market and little competition.
“Speaking of the price of gas in cylinders, of LP gas, to say that the price depends on the international price, the international reference price and this can go up or down depending on market conditions,” he said.
The director of Pemex pointed out during the morning conference last Tuesday that the price of a cylinder of 20 kilos of LP gas for the beginning of this 2022 is located at 395 pesos, while for a cylinder of 30 kilos, the price is 584 pesos .
This figure represents a reduction of 15 pesos purchased with the current cost of the Gas Bienestar cylinder, which is 410 pesos.
In previous months, the price of the cylinder of the Pemex subsidiary rose to 490 pesos, which represented a rise of 90 pesos above the cost with which Gas Bienestar started its operations in Iztapalapa in August 2021.
Until now, Gas Bienestar’s operations have focused on the country’s capital. The subsidiary of the state company already has participation in the municipalities Iztapalapa, Azcapotzalco, Tláhuac, Iztacalco and Miguel Hidalgo.
Octavio Romero Oropeza has said that Gas Bienestar will give priority to “the places where there is a presidential start-up commitment”: Tabasco and Veracruz. Later, Puebla, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato and Jalisco will be added.
Last August, the federal administration began to impose a control of maximum fuel prices, at the same time that it announced the creation of Gas Bienestar.
