What is the weather going to be like at the 2022 Australian GP in F1?

0

Formula 1 returns after two long years of pandemic to the city of Melbourne to celebrate the 2022 Australian Grand Prix, an event long awaited by all due to the radical modifications to the track that promise to create more exciting races.

One factor that everyone will have to take into account is the weather during the competition weekend in the renovated Albert Park, as it is not totally ruled out that a downpour of water will fall on the Sunday of the race.

Day Weather Maximum and minimum temperatures Possibility of rain winds
Friday Partly cloudy 23°-14º 12% SE 4km/h
Saturday Partly cloudy 25°-17º 10% NNE 10 km/h
Sunday Partly cloudy 26°-17º 25% N 18km/h

The clouds will give way to the sun on Friday, where the teams will test in the two free practice sessions, and which will be crucial to prepare for the Australian test as the track configuration has changed.

When the single-seaters are on the asphalt, the temperature will be quite pleasant, with maximums of 22° C , although during the midday of this first contact, the sky will be covered with clouds, without showers falling.

The real fire in the Great Circus will begin on Saturday, qualifying day, where everyone must put their cards on the table, and they will do so on a circuit where the ambient temperature will be around 24 ° C , although it is expected that in the crucial hours Not a single drop of water falls in Albert Park.

This will totally change on Sunday, the most important day of the weekend, since that is when the points are distributed. The drivers will be able to rest easy in the morning, as they will enjoy temperatures close to 20° C , but as the afternoon progresses and they have to get into their cars, the sky will be covered with clouds and the possibility of rain will appear.

There is a 20-25% chance that we will have a race in Australia in wet conditions, as we did in chaotic 2010.

On that occasion, the 24 drivers disputed the second appointment of the year with the tires for wet conditions, and from the first corner there were already moments of tension, with several cars spun and others on the grass.

Only half of the field survived that rainy mayhem, and this Sunday 10th April we’ll find out if similar carnage ensues with the water or if we instead enjoy a test with the sun shining high in the Australian sky.
