What is urethritis?

0

Basically urethritis or urethral syndrome is an inflammation or swelling of the urethra (the tube through which urine is eliminated from the bladder to the outside of the body), usually caused by a bacterial infection (caused by E. coli bacteria , Gonococcus and Chlamydia trachomatis ) or due to a structural problem (narrowing of the urethra). Other forms of contagion of urethritis are through herpes simplex, reactive arthritis or by parasites such as those that cause trichomoniasis or chlamydia, both sexually transmitted diseases.

Urethritis, which can affect both men and women , can last for weeks or months. The contagion is easier if we have multiple sexual partners, if we engage in high-risk sexual behaviors or even simply with oral sex.

What are the symptoms? For men: blood in urine or semen, pain when ejaculating, discharge from the penis, burning sensation when urinating, itching and, in some cases, fever. For women, vaginal discharge, pelvic discomfort, fever and chills, stomach pain and itching.
