In fact, iCloud is characterized by being the tool that keeps our applications and data synchronized between the different Apple devices; As long as, yes, we access our account with the same Apple ID.
What’s more, it is an extremely useful option when restoring all our data, files and documents from an old device to a new one, a tremendously suitable option when, for example, we buy a new iPhone or iPad.
One of the main advantages of this system is that Apple offers us the possibility of using up to 5 GB of storage capacity for free , enough space to start and use for a few months, but depending on the use we make of it, in the end it could fall short quickly.
When we run out of space in iCloud , our devices will stop synchronizing files and data, not being possible, in addition, to make new backup copies.
Although it is clear that this might not be a problem for a few days or weeks, in the long run it can be, especially when we lose the device, or it breaks. What to do in these cases? In addition to verifying the use we are doing in iCloud to, for example, proceed to delete those files or documents that we have not used for a long time, Apple offers us the possibility of contracting more storage space .
Managing iCloud storage
Before proceeding to contract a larger storage plan in iCloud, a good place to start is to verify the use we have made of iCloud. Not surprisingly, you will be surprised to discover that, in most cases, you tend to run out of space on this system due to very large files that you no longer use.
Therefore, it is advisable to at least take a look and disable anything that is not essential to keep in iCloud. To do this, we must go to the Settings application from the device’s home screen, click on the banner with our name and photo , and then click on iCloud .
Now we can check how much storage space we have left, and what apps are using iCloud in those moments. In case we are not interested in a certain app continuing to use this service, simply uncheck it by clicking on the switch that we will find located on the right side.
It is also possible to click on the Storage management button, where we can discover how much space each application has consumed. Most likely, the Photos are the main “culprits”, since they usually take up a lot of space.
In turn, if we have run out of free storage space, the system will notify us of this and offer us the possibility of expanding it. To do this, we must click on the Expand button. Next, the different options that Apple offers us will be shown: 50 GB, 200 GB or 2 TB, with their respective prices.
