What determines our preferences for a certain fragrance? Although it is not easy to answer this question, in 2010 neurobiologist Rafi Haddad, from the Weizmann Institute in Israel, came up with a possible answer. Using an electronic nose, he was able to predict with up to 90% accuracy the smells that were pleasant for any individual , from an Israeli to an Ethiopian. And he concluded that our affinity for certain smells is biologically and not culturally predetermined. According to his experiments, published in the Journal of Neuroscience , the list of favorite scents for ordinary mortals is headed by the scents of lime, orange, grapefruit, mint and peach .
Regarding the best perfumes when it comes to flirting, Alan Kirsch, a researcher at the Chicago Foundation for Research and Treatment of Odor and Taste (USA), has concluded that the fragrance that most excites a man is the mixture of pumpkin pie and lavender , which manages to increase the flow of blood to his genital organs by up to 40%. In women , on the other hand, Kirsch deduces from his experiments that what works best when it comes to increasing libido is the smell of talcum powder .
