Why the roscón de Reyes represents the traditions that I want to keep with my daughters when they grow up

I must confess that the arrival of the Magi continues to amaze me even after many years living in Spain: that it is one of the few countries that continues to celebrate a Christmas tradition, even after New Year’s Eve has passed represents just what I want to keep with my daughters : the richness and joy of traditions, even though the years go by and they stop being little girls.

The roscón, the sweet custom that unites the family

One of the things I like to make the most is the roscón with the help of my daughters . We love spending time in the kitchen and even the smallest one adds “its touch” to the dough.

I often try to unconsciously instill the value of effort, but in this way we also learn other equally important ones : that things are done with love, that patience is essential to obtain the best results and that, whatever happens (because Some of us have had failures, like that time the hole was closed and it was shaped like anything, except a roscón), we must be proud of our work, especially if we have tried to do our best.

Obviously the best part comes in the morning, when after the excitement of the gifts and the quick release of some of them, we have breakfast together, calm, unhurried and enjoying that roscón, whether homemade or bought, represents endless love. that I have for my family.

The magic, may it last forever

These dates are magical when you are a child, although I have discovered that my daughters transmit that magic to me now that I am an adult . Over time I have verified that the emotion of taking the tree out of the storage room, of seeing the gifts in the morning, or of finding the King inside the roscón, can last even though years have passed since you opened the last gift with the innocence of childhood .

That is why we should take advantage of them to connect with our children (and why not, also with our partner), creating memories in our memory and not in that of the mobile , understanding that the best gift we can give them (and make ourselves) is time together and which is not shaped like a toy.
