Williams will negotiate with Audi its entry into F1 in the future

The Volkswagen Group confirmed at the beginning of May that they would enter Formula 1 with Porsche and Audi, although they would not do so as official teams, something that, of course, would be much more interesting, but rather as engine manufacturers.

The two German giants have not yet announced with which teams they will make the leap to the Grand Circus, so the rumors in the paddock are increasing as time goes on.

At first it was speculated that the Stuttgart company would join one of the most successful teams in the modern era of the category, Red Bull, something that may fit, since those from Milton Keynes have started with the Red project Bull PowerTrains, a camouflaged way to continue with Honda until 2026.

As is evident, there are still many seasons until the alleged association is finalized, but the biggest doubt comes with the other manufacturer, the one with the four rings, which has been moving through the different garages.

A topic that has been hot in the paddock has been about Audi , which has been related to McLaren, and it is that the same director of the Woking team, Zak Brown , assured “they have had conversations”, but that “they were not for sale” .

Other rumors have been about Aston Martin and a possible sale by Lawrence Stroll , although neither party has spoken about it.

Now, the latest thing that has shaken the future of the Ingolstadt firm has been the statements of another historic team on the grid, which is willing to start a project if it is attractive.

It is about Williams, and it is that those of Grove have been sunk in the constructors’ table since the 2018 season, when they only added 7 points, and it was worse in the following courses, with a single point achieved by Robert Kubica in the chaotic 2019 German Grand Prix.

The British began a partnership with Mercedes from the start of the hybrid era, and it was successful, finishing third in 2014, albeit its glorious memories of the BMW days.

For five years, from 2000 to 2005, the English enjoyed the full support of a factory for the last time, and when the Germans wanted to buy the team, Sir Frank Williams refused, so BMW went to Sauber .

Remembering that and without closing the door to the Volkswagen Group, the current head of Williams, Jost Capito , told German F1 Insider : “It is a very interesting opportunity for any team to be able to work with a manufacturer, but, for the moment, We don’t have concrete details, and the engine rules haven’t been finalized yet.”

“As far as I know, the Volkswagen Group’s decisions will depend on the regulations, but I think this will become clearer in the coming weeks. If they can be finalized, of course we will negotiate with them,” said the German.

In this way, the legendary British team, the second in terms of constructors’ championships, could end up with four rings on the back of its single-seaters sooner rather than later.
