"With this Aston Martin, Vettel just doesn't want to put in the effort"

Sebastian Vettel has in his possession one of the most difficult records to break in Formula 1, the German driver became the youngest world champion in history by winning his first title in 2010, at the age of 23 years and 134 days.

From 2010 to 2013, Vettel won four world titles in F1, the only ones for Red Bull until Max Verstappen won the one last season (2021). Such are his numbers, that only three drivers can boast of surpassing him: the five-time champion Juan Manuel Fangio and the seven-time champions Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

However, there have been many voices that have criticized the German driver since Red Bull ‘s good run ended at the end of 2013, a group of experts and fans who consider that Vettel only performs at his best when he has a car that really competitive, while it declines whenever the car is far from the first position.

Helmut Marko , who worked with Vettel at Red Bull during his most successful years, was very confident that the German driver is still capable of winning races and fighting for top positions, but with such a poor Aston Martin, he simply lack of motivation to give everything.

“Vettel can be very fast when he has the opportunity to fight for the top positions. Last year he finished second in Baku and he was very fast in Monte Carlo. But with a car like the one Aston Martin has now, Vettel just doesn’t want to push himself.” Marko said in an interview for the sister edition of Motorsport.com, known as Formel1.de .

“At Aston Martin they need to make a faster car. With what they have now, the drivers can’t have enough motivation to fight for positions outside of the points,” the Austrian veteran concluded.

In the first two grands prix of 2022, both cars from the Silverstone team occupied the last positions of the time table, both in qualifying and in the race, being the only team, along with Williams, that has not yet managed to score any points in this start to the season, with Lance Stroll and Nico Hulkenberg a long way from the points zone.
