The second feature-length film by the French director and screenwriter Pierre Pinaud is more than a feel-good movie. A deeply human and charming story is told there.

Paris – Eve Vernet, the protagonist in the new film by Frenchman Pierre Pinaud, was once one of the most important rose breeders. Today she is on the verge of bankruptcy with her rose farm.

Payment requests are piling up in the office and there is a lack of money for employees. Véra, her faithful secretary, thinks she has found a solution. She hires Fred, Nadège and Samir as part of a rehabilitation program to reduce salary costs. This is the beginning of a unique adventure about maintaining the Vernet family nursery – and a deeply humane and charming story.

“Madame Vernet’s rose garden” is the second feature-length film by the French director and screenwriter Pierre Pinaud. After the melodrama “Say that you love me”, the 52-year-old decided on a gentle comedy that is more than a “feel good” film. Pinaud carefully integrates topics such as fear of social decline and the fight against big industrialists into the plot.

In around an hour and a half, the viewer sinks into a world of roses and beautiful landscapes from Burgundy. In the lead role, Catherine Frot (“Madame Marguerite and the Art of Crooked Tones”), who won a prize in France, plays convincingly in a female role that is typical for her: outwardly harsh and repellent, internally vulnerable and deeply human.
