Yamaha prepares its landing in Moto2 through the Master Camp

Misano.- The intention of the Japanese factory is to give more scope to the Master Camp , its training program for young riders, and create a platform so that the riders can gain experience before making the final leap to MotoGP.

With this, the Iwata company will replicate the strategy that both KTM and Honda have put into practice for years. In the case of the orange bikes, through the Aki Ajo team, while Honda is represented in the silver category with Team Asia . The main objective is to gain control of the young talent coming up from the lower classes, which is something that is paying off big for Mattighofen.

Until now, the Yamaha Master Camp was an initiative that was always linked to Valentino Rossi, and, in fact, the official nomenclature of the project was always Yamaha VR46 Master Camp. Last month the ninth edition of the program was held, which lasted for four days and in which five runners took part.

In this San Marino Grand Prix, the VR46 Academy puts on track a Moto3 guest team, the Bardahl VR46 Riders Academy , with Matteo Martelle and Elia Bartolini as riders.

However, it remains to be seen how the alliance will turn out after VR46 certified its promotion to MotoGP with a view to 2022, hand in hand with Ducati .

“Yes, it is a possibility. We want to give the Master Camp a presence in Moto2”, replied Jarvis, this Friday from Misano, when asked by Motorsport.com.

At this point, the question that arises is to know what formula Yamaha will use to race in Moto2. Logic leads us to think of an association or purchase of one of the teams already present. The fact that the Sepang Racing Team (SRT) have decided to close their lower divisions could lead to consideration of their acquisition, a possibility that Jarvis, however, rules out. “The SRT is not an option”, certified the British executive.
