"You are neither a horse nor a cow": FDA warns of deworming agents against Covid-19

The US drug agency is forced to discourage the population from taking an alleged corona drug.

Washington DC – The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) appealed last Saturday (August 21, 2021) to the US population to refrain from taking a horse deworming drug to treat Covid-19. This came in response to reports from people who had ingested it and ended up in the hospital because of it.

The FDA posted a message on social media that said, “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, all of you. Stop it. “

Ivermectin drug: Not intended for corona treatment

The drug, commonly known as ivermectin, is typically used to prevent and treat parasites in animals. The FDA has “received many reports from patients who needed medical attention and had to be hospitalized after treating themselves with ivermectin, which is intended for use in horses.”

It is in no way an antiviral drug, although in certain cases it can also be used on humans. The FDA has approved the drug for treatment in people related to intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, two diseases caused by parasitic worms. However, it has no effect against the corona virus.

No corona drug: Mississippi person in hospital after taking ivermectin

Ivermectin abuse can cause side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, imbalance, or seizures, and even death, according to the FDA. “There is a great deal of misinformation out there, and you may have heard that it is okay to take a large dose of ivermectin. That’s wrong, ”writes the FDA. “Even the permitted amount can interact with other drugs such as blood thinners.”

The Mississippi State Health Department announced last week that there had been at least one hospital admission related to ivermectin. “The responsible toxin control center has received an increasing number of calls from people who may be taking invermectin to treat or prevent Covid-19 after corona infection,” read an emergency report issued by the Mississippi authorities.

It continues: “At least 70 percent of recent calls were related to the use of ivermectin cattle and animal supplements purchased from livestock centers. Eighty-five percent of the callers had mild symptoms, but one person was directed to come for further evaluation due to the amount of ivermectin that was allegedly ingested. “

Donald Trump previously advertised malaria drug for corona treatment

It is not the first time that a drug has been promoted as a supposed Corona miracle drug. In mid-2020, Donald Trump touted the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as effective in preventing Covid 19 disease.

Without evidence, the then US President claimed that a study of veterans that raised the alarm about the drug was “false” and a “hostile claim”. Even his own cabinet warned against taking it: The drug should only be administered against Covid-19 in a hospital or as part of research.

The vast majority of new corona infections in the US are recorded in unvaccinated people. The country is currently fighting against the spread of the Delta variant. (Lukas Zigo)
