The scandal hit “Layla” is currently occupying the masses: Because the text of the party hit is perceived by some as sexist, the number one song can no longer be played at many events and folk festivals. In Düsseldorf, however, a DJ reached deep into his bag of tricks to circumvent the ban.

Düsseldorf – “Layla”, the number one hit by Ballermann duo DJ Robin & Schürze, is currently on everyone’s lips: For some, the controversial song about the “Puffmama” of the same name belongs at every good party, while others find the song sexist . The scandal hit produced by Ikke Hipgold has therefore already been banned at several folk festivals (all news from the world of hits at a glance). The song was also not supposed to be played at the Düsseldorf Rheinkirmes – actually…

DJ uses trick to circumvent “Layla” ban – and plays instrumental version of party hit

Not everyone understands the “Layla” ban at German folk festivals: Pop star and producer Ikke Hipgold has already opposed censorship and can count on the support of numerous Ballermann colleagues. DJ Marc Pesch, who played in Düsseldorf at the Rheinkirmes in the marquee of the St. Sebastianus-Schützen, also opposed the song ban prevailing there.

The mood maker used a clever trick for this: Instead of the regular “Layla” version, only the instrumental sounded, but since those present were already sure of the lyrics, they simply sang along to the party hit themselves. There were “chants like in the football stadium” that called for the song, the DJ said in an interview with rtl.de. Of course he wanted to fulfill this wish: “There are 2,000 people who want to celebrate. A compromise has to be found between the demands from the town hall and the people in front of the stage. I think we managed that quite well yesterday.”

“Layla” action in Düsseldorf is well received – DJ fulfills visitor request and circumvents ban

With his action, Marc Pesch caused some media hype. Compared to focus.de , the DJ once again made it clear: “I wanted to find a solution between the desire of the visitors to hear the song and the desire of the rifle club that the song not be played on its premises.” Pictures and videos of the event, which the record publisher himself shared on social networks, clearly prove that his instrumental trick was well received by those present.

The song itself will soon be featured in one of the most popular music and entertainment programs on German television. But for the “ZDF-Fernsehgarten” the “Layla” text should be censored – the word “puff” should then become “woof” for a youth-free version. Sources used: focus.de, rtl.de
