In the midst of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, a touching moment occurred. Princess Charlotte reminded brother Prince George of the protocol.
LONDON – She may only be seven years old, but Princess Charlotte knows exactly what is expected of her as a member of the royal family. It was a difficult decision for Prince William (40) and Princess Kate (40) to take their two older children Prince George (9) and little Charlotte to the service and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022). Her great-grandmother was buried at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on September 19. It’s been a long day of farewells, especially for the youngest royals.

Nevertheless, the smallest of them all kept an eye on the protocol. A lipreader revealed in The Sun what Charlotte whispered to her older brother Prince George as they obediently stationed alongside their parents, the Prince, 40, and Princess of Wales, 40, at Wellington Arch watched the Queen’s coffin slide into loaded onto the hearse before being driven to Windsor. “You need to bow” reminds the little princess to her brother. The children supported each other, gave each other support, held hands and yet at some point it was too much for both of them. Charlotte cried heartrendingly, overcome with grief, standing silently beside her mother, her hands clasped over her face. Prince George could hardly be placed on the pew between father Prince William and mother Princess Kate in Westminster Abbey, unable to resist tears in the face of the coffin of his beloved “Gan Gan”.

Charlotte’s bravery was not lost on the millions who flocked to London to say farewell to the Queen. The moment was shared on social media, with many people commenting on how touched it was. “She’s definitely in charge . . . an excellent example,” wrote one. Another added: “Charlotte is George’s number one fan as well as his number one conscience.” A third summed it up: “She’s unreal for her age. Educate a Charlotte”.

Given the gravity of the moment, there was universal praise for the excellent behavior of the Cornwall and Cambridge scion. While their younger brother, four-year-old Prince Louis, was probably considered too young to attend the Queen’s Memorial and Tribute Day, George and Charlotte were “incredibly well behaved” at the state funeral in Westminster Abbey, according to Mark Tewksbury (54), a member of the Order of Canada, who attended the celebration.
