A breakdown on the autobahn cost a young man his life in Bavaria. He and his co-driver were waiting for help on the hard shoulder – and there was hit by a truck.
Bad Wörishofen (dpa) – A truck hit an 18-year-old standing on the hard shoulder after a breakdown on Autobahn 96 in Bavaria and fatally injured it. The accident occurred in front of the Bad Wörishofen exit, the young man died on site, as the police announced in the morning.
The 18-year-old and his 21-year-old passenger drove onto the hard shoulder on Wednesday afternoon because of the breakdown, set up a warning triangle and waited outside the car.
For reasons that were initially unexplained, the truck left the right lane and crashed into the rear of the parked car, then hit the young man. The passenger and the truck driver were unharmed. The motorway was blocked for several hours in the direction of Munich.
