Older women as main characters in films are rare. Why actually? That really needs to change, says actress Anja Kling.
Michendorf – From the point of view of the actress Anna Kling (51), older women have to be seen more often as main characters in films. Much more is told about male protagonists than female ones, Kling told the “Berliner Morgenpost” (Wednesday). That makes them thoughtful.
“I also think it's stupid that women who are getting older – I'm already in my early 50s – become invisible, so to speak, and are no longer cast.” Kling said that she didn't think the audience wanted that.
“But many editors still think that a woman can only be told between 20 and 40.” Older women are then still the mother of the heroine, a policewoman or just a neighbor. “I don't think that's right,” said Kling, who lives in Michendorf near Potsdam. "From that point of view, I think it's great that there are changes." Dpa
