Tino Chrupalla from the AfD calls for more German cultural assets on the curriculum. However, when a children’s reporter asks him about his favorite German poem, the AfD politician pauses.

[Berlin -] The AfD chairman Tino Chrupalla would like more German cultural assets to be conveyed in schools in this country – however, when asked by a ZDF children’s reporter about his favorite German poem, he had to pass.

Visibly insecure, the 46-year-old replied: “My favorite poem is, uh, I have to, I would have to think about it now, I can’t think of any.” When asked by “logo!” AfD politicians might have a favorite poet, Chrupalla replied, “Heinrich Heine.”

He had previously emphasized that his party wanted more German folk songs and German poems to be taught again, and that German poets and thinkers would be honored more in schools. Thereupon Alexander said that he thought that a relatively large number of poems had to be memorized.

Leading candidates answer questions from children’s reporters

The top candidates of the other parties – from Armin Laschet (CDU) to Olaf Scholz (SPD), Annalena Baerbock (Greens), Christian Lindner (FDP), Markus Söder (CSU) to Janine Wissler (left) presented themselves shortly before the Bundestag election on September 26th in three to four-minute interviews with the children’s reporters from “logo!”. And were not always sure about questions about youth language. Chrupalla was unable to score when asked what the youth word “cringe” (foreign to be ashamed of) meant.

There was mockery and malice for his statements on the net. One user tweeted, “It’s like asking Sarah Palin about her newspaper reading. Or Donald Trump after his favorite biblical passage. ”Another wrote:“ Chrupalla doesn’t know any German poems but doesn’t like Heine cringer. ”[Dpa]
