Three Rolls Royce and 200 pairs of fingerless leather gloves – Karl Lagerfeld was a passionate collector. Sotheby's describes the estate of the fashion designer as diverse and surprising.

[Cologne / Paris -] Karl Lagerfeld died two years ago, now his estate is to be auctioned. “The collection is as diverse and surprising as the fashion designer was,” said the auction house Sotheby's.

It also includes personal objects such as the bowls of Choupette, the cat who has been by his side for the last eight years of his life. His three Rolls Royce and more than 200 pairs of his famous fingerless leather gloves will also be auctioned in Monaco, Paris and Cologne in late 2021 and early 2022. Sotheby's recently relocated its German headquarters to Cologne and plans to hold auctions there in the future.

Lagerfeld was "an insatiable collector" who was interested in a wide variety of styles, such as Italian furniture, French applied arts of the 18th century and Art Deco. He also collected art from the early 20th century with objects from Germany in the 1920s, in particular furniture by the architect and designer Bruno Paul and German advertising posters. [dpa]
