Lake Garda: Munich arrested after a fatal motorboat accident on the Brenner

After the 52-year-old left Italy after the incident, he voluntarily decided to return. As a spokesman for his law firm confirmed to the German Press Agency, the Munich resident turned himself in to the police at the Austrian-Italian border crossing in Brenner on Monday night. The 52-year-old is currently in custody in Brescia (Lombardy). The competent Italian authorities had previously applied for a European arrest warrant against the Munich resident. A court in Munich has already confirmed the arrest ordered by the Brescia public prosecutor, as Corriere della Sera reports

The 52-year-old was traveling with a companion of the same age in a motorboat on Lake Garda on the night of June 20, when, according to the current investigation, they rammed and ran over a wooden boat. The two occupants of the wooden boat, a 25-year-old and a 37-year-old from Italy, were killed. The suspects are said to have simply continued their journey afterwards. Later they are said to have testified that they did not notice the collision. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating manslaughter and failure to provide assistance.

Motorboat accident on Lake Garda: Munich arrested – a sensation for a letter to the bereaved

A letter that the two Germans wrote to the families of the victims recently caused a stir. As a lawyer for the bereaved confirmed, this is said to have met with rejection and anger from the families, because they did not consider him to be sincere and, among other things, he was not even signed by the two suspects.
