Annalena Baerbock in the ARD summer interview: Nonsensical questions, constant interruptions

0

The green candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock was given little opportunity on ARD to present her positions in a differentiated manner.

Berlin – ARD’s summer interview with the green co-boss Annalena Baerbock differed from the previous programs in two respects. It took place in the studio because of the weather and it was unfair at times. In any case, even a half-hour survey is not suitable for presenting political positions in a way that would even begin to do justice to the issues at hand, be it social policy, climate change or Afghanistan.

Annalena Baerbock can still say a lot in a nutshell, but if she wasn’t interrupted by the interviewer Tina Hassel, she had to answer silly questions. For example, whether she would, if she moved into the Chancellery, give her (“very popular”, Hassel) colleague Robert Habeck the first right of access to a ministry.

Of course (and seriously) Baerbock ignored this speculation, as did Hassel’s hardly less nonsensical question as to whether one of the current ministers should resign after the Afghanistan debacle or belong to a new government (which is why CSU leader Markus Söder had uttered in typical populist manner). Of course, Hassel also knows that no one would step down from the grand coalition five weeks before the election. There would have been enough opportunities in the months before to resign from Angela Merkel’s ranks of ministers (Scheuer, Altmaier, Klöckner).

Baerbock took the opportunity to demand a committee of inquiry and to explain who should take part in an international Afghanistan conference – with interruptions by the ARD woman. Which continued not to be covered with fame when it came to her questions: How many people would Baerbock want to take on? “You have not yet become very specific.” Apart from what this thanking in numbers instead of human fate reveals about the interviewer, it would currently hardly be serious to commit to a number. Baerbock at least agreed to demand that it should be more than the 50,000 that Great Britain wants.

Bundestag election

On the subject of climate protection, the station had found a midwife who was dependent on her car and asked about the relief in view of the impending increase in the CO2 price. The Greens mainly want to subsidize e-cars (with 9,000 euros) and renewed the demand for the statutory minimum wage. Hassel refused to say more and insisted on the quick question round – complete nonsense, as did the populist claim that the Greens voters were on average “wealthy” – without defining this category.

ARD summer interview with the Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock: blood flogger at the end

The candidate remained unclear on the question of how she would finance the expenditures announced in the Greens election manifesto if she needed a two-thirds majority to reduce the debt brake. But neither can other parties – if they wanted to. And the fact that the Green leader did not want to commit to a future coalition, not even with the SPD, is political practice.

Really unfair, comparable to a bloodstreak in football, was Hassel’s last question: “How would you explain to your children if the Greens might have lost their chances of setting their decisive course in the government through their mother’s avoidable mistakes?” Indictment for a political journalist to see election results as the result of the actions of individuals only.
