Apple increases the minimum wage for its workers to 435 pesos per hour

Apple announced this Wednesday that it will increase the minimum wage for its workers in the United States in response to rising inflation. The salary of the company's American team will increase to 22 dollars (or more depending on the market) per hour, that is, 435.19 pesos at today's currency exchange rate.

This refers to an increase of 45% compared to 2018 levels, Apple detailed in a statement sent to Reuters.

Apple informed some workers that their annual reviews would be moved up three months and that the new pay would take effect in early July, said the Wall Street Journal, which was first to report on the compensation changes.

The iPhone maker said the adjustment is due to companies facing a tight labor market and increased unionization efforts amid rising inflation.

Last year some current and former workers began criticizing the company's working conditions online.

In April, workers at the Apple store in Atlanta petitioned for a union election, seeking to become the company's first US store to unionize.

Beyond the raise to the minimum wage, Apple has not provided any further details on the compensation changes.
