Biden tests negative for Covid-19 after virus rebound

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, tested negative for covid-19, days after having suffered a worsening of his situation due to the virus.

"The President continues to feel great," Biden's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, said in a statement. "This morning, your SARS-CoV-2 antigen test was negative."

The president tested positive for the first time on July 21 but suffered a "rebound" of the disease on July 30 because he began taking Paxlovid", Pfizer's anticovid pill.

A small but significant percentage of people taking Paxlovid experience a relapse or rebound that occurs days after the five-day treatment cycle ends, studies have shown.

After testing positive again, the president had to cancel some trips and events to celebrate recent legislative victories and help boost his position in the polls.

Isolated in the White House for a week, Biden plans to resume his travels soon. According to his official agenda, he will travel to the state of Kentucky, the scene of devastating floods.
