Half the US population is at least half vaccinated, according to the latest data from the CDC. Financial and material incentives should further increase the vaccination rate.

Washington (AP) – In the US, half of all around 330 million inhabitants have now received at least the first vaccination against the corona virus. Around 40 percent of the population are already fully vaccinated.

The number of first vaccinations rose to 167.2 million, with which 50.3 percent of the population received at least one injection, according to figures from the CDC health authority.

In relation to the number of around 260 million adults in the USA, the vaccination rate is even higher: a good 62 percent of them have received at least one vaccination so far, and more than 51 percent are fully vaccinated, as the CDC data show. In the particularly vulnerable group of people aged 65 and over, 86 percent received at least one dose of a vaccine.

US President Joe Biden has set the goal that by Independence Day on July 4, around 70 percent of all adults should have received at least the first vaccination. Many states, municipalities and companies are now offering significant incentives – from raffles for millions to win cruises – to further increase the vaccination rate.

In the United States, the vaccines from Moderna and Biontech / Pfizer, which require two doses to be injected, are the most popular. The vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, which is fully effective after just one dose, currently accounts for less than five percent of all vaccinations.

The preparation from Biontech / Pfizer has now also been approved in the USA for children and adolescents from the age of twelve;
