In the racism dispute over the name change of the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren” in Friedberg, a second demo took place on Saturday. Also included: a middle finger and 007.

Friedberg – Curiosities are happening in Friedberg these days and weeks. A middle finger of a passing car stuck out of the open window, a lawyer undercover and a pharmacy that still has the racist “M-word” in its name. All of this came together on Saturday (July 10th, 2021) in Friedberg in front of the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren”.

In the racism dispute over the Friedberg pharmacy, the activists of “United Colors Of Change” announced and organized a demo. Said and done. Around 100 demonstrators gathered on Elvis-Presley-Platz on Saturdays. A demo had already taken place at the same place about a year ago. The difference to the second round: This time there was no counter-demo.

Racism dispute over Friedberger pharmacy: Second demo as “Knowledge workshop for free”

The speakers at the demo included activists from “United Colors Of Change”, lawyer Markus Fenske (Greens), representatives from Fridays for Future and Siraad Wiedenroth and Mirrianne Mahn from ISD Frankfurt. The title of the “demo against racism and colonial language” was the program, organizer Ousman Conteh promised a “knowledge workshop for free” at the beginning, which then followed – which unfortunately, unfortunately, not everyone understood.

As a representative of “United Colors Of Change” told fr.de, during the demo an unknown person honked at the demonstrator: drove past the inside and held his middle finger out of the open window. Subtle criticism works differently.

At the demo in front of the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren” in Friedberg: Unknown woman reappears

There were also two well-known faces who would obviously have preferred to remain incognito. Brief review of the first demo: A woman is said to have hit a demonstrator there. As the press office of the Friedberg police confirmed to fr.de at the time, a complaint was made against said woman. Exit unknown.

What is known: According to statements by the activists, the woman is said to have reappeared on site at the second demo. Accordingly, she sat in the car on the opposite side of the street and filmed the demo – before she was discovered. Then she started the engine and drove away.

But apparently the woman wasn’t the only one who was in 007 mode that Saturday. As a representative of “United Colors Of Change” reported to fr.de, Konrad Dörner, lawyer for pharmacy owner Kerstin Podszus, was also sitting on a park bench not far from the scene and watching the goings-on. As a photo that is exclusive to fr.de shows, Dörner wears a sports jersey and holds a book in his hand.

Contrary to local media reports from Friedberg, a conversation between representatives of “United Colors Of Change” and Dörner and pharmacy owner Podszus took place at the end of 2020. Mayor Dirk Antkowiak (CDU) acted as mediator at the time. The aim was to settle the name dispute over the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren”. Without success. But even now, after the second demo, the activists are ready to talk, as a representative of the group emphasizes. This was also shown to the contrary in the local press.

Prohibition of the “M-Word”? Application refused!

The word “Mohr”, which is just as racist as the N-word, should also be officially outlawed in Friedberg. To this end, “United Colors Of Change” had submitted a corresponding application. A similar application had been crowned with success weeks earlier in Kassel. But not in Friedberg. According to a letter from the city of Friedberg, which is available to fr.de, among other things: “According to § 11 paragraph 1 of the rules of procedure of the city council and the exclusions of the city of Friedberg (Hesse), the city council, each parliamentary group, the magistrate and the mayor Bringing motions to the city council. ”The“ citizen input ”named by“ United Colors Of Change ”(like in Kassel) was“ therefore not possible ”.

And the activists: inside? Are already planning the next steps, as a representative explained. By the way: As the Wetterauer Zeitung recently reported, Mayor Antkowiak “unpacked the nut key” and “unscrewed an additional label”. The named additional sign was at the last session of the city parliament next to the entrance door under a blue Europe place name sign. It read: “Against anti-Semitism and racism! For diversity and peaceful coexistence. ”Why the additional sign was unscrewed remains open. According to the Wetterauer Zeitung, a city councilor had previously expressed concerns. Strange things are happening in Friedberg these days and weeks. (Nico check)
