Despite thunderstorms at the weekend: The September summer still remains

0

After a few warm summer days, the weather in Germany is about to cool down with showers and thunderstorms – but the September summer is not over yet.

Offenbach – The weather * in Germany really turns up again in September. And even if the weekend gets uncomfortable, late summer is not over yet. As the German Weather Service * (DWD) reports in Offenbach, Tief Quillian only puts a small damper on the summer weather at the weekend. Already on Friday (10.09.2021) it starts with numerous showers and thunderstorms, which can also be thunderstorm-like with heavy rain, especially in western Germany.

In Hesse, too, the weather situation is initially inconsistent, explained Christian Herold, a qualified meteorologist at the DWD. From Friday lunchtime, there will be more showers and locally strong thunderstorms * – locally also with heavy rain * and hail *. The maximum temperatures are between 20 and 25 degrees. On Saturday the weather will calm down again, according to the DWD expert. Then there are only a few showers. With a moderate westerly wind, the temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees suddenly don’t feel so summery anymore.

After the warm summer weather, showers and thunderstorms are gathering in Germany at the weekend – but the September summer is not over yet.

Thunderstorms and clouds: Deep Quillian pauses the September summer – but not for long

But while in the north there are still many clouds and isolated showers on Sunday (September 12th, 2021), the next high pressure area * is already moving up in the south. “The warm September weather will apparently continue next week,” explains meteorologist Dominik Jung * from the Q.met weather service to wetter.net. And with impressive intensity. On Thursday (09.09.2021) the 30-degree mark was cracked in Saxony-Anhalt and the night from Thursday to Friday set heat records for September nights in many places with 18 to 19 degrees.

As with the previous summer comeback, we owe the warm weather in the coming week to a hurricane, explains Jung. “Ex-Hurricane Larry will be involved in the European weather as a storm low near Iceland and act like a pump. In doing so, it pumps very warm, but also very humid and humid air masses to us in Germany. You can really sweat there. ”Overall, September should already show itself from a better side than summer * 2021 did for long stretches.

Weather in Germany: the end of September-summer now seems foreseeable

The development is still uncertain, adds DWD meteorologist Herold. “At the beginning of the week, increasingly subtropical air flows into the south and also into the center of Germany, which could bring a lengthening of late summer. How far this warm air will advance to the north, however, remains to be seen, ”says Herold.

Summer weather in September: But autumn should soon arrive in Germany

On Wednesday (15.09.021) there is at least another change in the weather: a cold front could bring showers and thunderstorms again. “After that, there is a rough trend in the direction of a somewhat cooler section of the weather, which could slowly bring us to autumn,” explains the weather expert from the German Weather Service.

Weather news *: All information about forecasts * on our topic page.

With such a start into autumn, many also hope for a nice winter *. Dominik Jung explains once more: “It doesn’t matter how September, October or November went for the coming winter.” Predictions * for the next season could therefore not be derived from the current weather, but only from the long-term trends of the weather services will. And the first weather trend for the upcoming winter in Germany is already there. And this trend of the American weather model * for the coming winter should especially please fans of snow and cold.
