Diogo Moreira gets his first Moto3 pole at Silverstone

0

Diogo Moreira was, for the first time in his career, the fastest in the Moto3 qualifying session at Silverstone. The KTM rider, the first Brazilian poleman in the history of the category, stopped the clock at 2:10.951 . Tomorrow he will be escorted on the front row by Izan Guevara , second at 0.068 seconds, and Ryusei Yamanaka , third at 0.078 seconds.

The official practices started with the Q1 of the small category. This first session was attended by prominent names such as Sergio García or Jaume Masià .

The first stint of the session took Ricardo Rossi to first place, followed by Taiyo Furusato, Adrián Fernández and Jaume Masià.

Sergio García, who has never quite gotten along with Silverstone , opted to ride alone. That, on such a long track, should have hurt him, not being able to benefit from any slipstream. However, the Spaniard knew how to get up to third place.

Xavi Artigas, in his last attempt, recorded the second fastest time of the session. Thus, Ricardo Rossi (02:11.458), Xavi Artigas , Sergio García and Taiyo Furusato got the pass to Q2 . Jaume Masià was relegated to 7th place, so in tomorrow’s race he will start from a late 21st position.

Izan Guevara was the first to go to Q2 , without waiting for his teammate Sergio García.

Halfway through training, with Diogo Moreira, Ricardo Rossi and Stefano Nepa in the top three positions, about half of the drivers had yet to complete a fastest lap.

In the last five minutes, Guevara began to improve his records despite riding alone. The times remained unchanged until the end of the session.

Finally, the pole went to Diogo Moreira, with a time of 2:10.951. He will be joined in the front row by Izan Guevara and Ryusei Yamanaka.

Sergio García could not match his feat in Q1, and tomorrow he will start from 11th position.
