Do you know which is the smallest vertebrate in the world?

Although until now it was thought to be an Indonesian fish ( Paedocypris progenetica ) measuring 8 millimeters, a team of researchers from Louisiana State University has discovered a new species that surpasses this mark. How tall exactly?

It is a little frog ( Paedophryne amauensis ) that lives in New Guinea, the largest and highest tropical island in the world and is known for being a "hot spot", that is, an area with great biodiversity. The adults of the new species measure 7.7 millimeters in average and live in the leaf litter of humid forests, feeding on ticks, insects and mites.

This is not the first tiny frog known, in fact there are 29 species that measure less than 13 millimeters. Thanks to their small size, frogs can explore the recesses of the vegetation on the floor of the humid forests in which they live, and reach more sources of food.
