DWD warns of hurricane gusts in southern Hesse: These regions are affected

Deep “Zeynep” reaches Hessen and causes hurricane-like gusts from Friday afternoon. A weather warning also applies to many districts and cities in southern Hesse.

Frankfurt/Offenbach – After the violent gusts with which “Ylenia” has been sweeping Hesse since Wednesday (February 16, 2022), the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach is now warning of a stormy start to the weekend. Responsible for this is from Friday (02/18/2022) storm “Zeynep”. According to the meteorologists, however, the gusts will be somewhat weaker than with “Ylenia”.

The weather service issued a warning of hurricane-force gusts for Friday afternoon on Friday night. There is particular danger from uprooted trees, falling branches and loose roof tiles. Objects on balconies and terraces should be secured for security reasons, it said. According to the police, there was initially no major storm damage in the night from Thursday to Friday.

Hurricane-like gusts in Hesse: The storm reaches wind speeds of up to 130 km/h in mountainous areas

For Friday morning, the DWD for Hesse * forecast freshening south-west wind with gusts of wind. With highs between 10 and 14 degrees, rain showers and isolated thunderstorms can also be expected. In the mountains, stormy gusts are already possible during the day.

In the evening and at night the storm increases. Occasionally, hurricane gusts with speeds between 110 and 130 kilometers per hour can also be expected at summit locations. The focus should therefore be in northern and central Hesse up to the Gießen area. The severe weather warning is initially in effect until 1 a.m. on Saturday.
