Hamburg’s second mayor calls for gender-neutral mobility. In the future, crash tests will also be carried out with female dummies.

Hamburg – The topic of “gender” has long been a big issue in society, but the newly introduced colon in job titles does not seem to be sufficient for everyone. Katharina Fegebank, Vice Mayor of Hamburg and Green Party politician, wants to go one step further. Now crash test dummies are also to be gendered.
* 24hamburg.de reveals here why women are actually disadvantaged when it comes to road safety.

Women drive an average of only 14 kilometers a day, while men drive an average of 29 kilometers. Nevertheless, around half of all road traffic accidents are female. The reason: The cars are tested with “male” crash test dummies that are 1.75 m tall and weigh 78 kilos. For small and lighter women who have to slide the seat forward to reach the pedals, the cars are not as safe as they are for the average man who the dummy is based on.

Katharina Fegebank wants that to be changed. Female crash test dummies are to be introduced in Hamburg to ensure “gender-neutral mobility”. According to Fegebank, automobile manufacturing and accident research have to adapt to the different needs of women, men, old and young and people with disabilities. She wants to see additions to the “prototype man” very quickly. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
