Espargaró: "I'm happy here, but if Aprilia doesn't renew me, there's life out there outside the paddock"

Le Mans.- Aleix Espargaró arrived at Aprilia with a bike completely to make in 2017, and since then he has focused on developing a prototype that, after many failures, achieved his first MotoGP podium in 2021, at Silverstone, and that this year has become one of the paddock sensations.

Aleix accumulates, in this start of the season, a victory, the first for him and for Aprilia in the premier class; one pole and three podiums, as well as being second in the general standings.

Despite offering a performance never seen before, Espargaró , who will turn 33 in July, has not just received an offer from Noale’s house that would convince him to continue with Aprilia . What else must he do to be renewed? Motorsport.com asked the Spanish driver at Le Mans on Thursday.

“I don’t know, ask them. There has come a time when I don’t want to dwell on it anymore, I try to enjoy as much as I can outside the circuit, practicing my passions and having the best time possible, and when I’m here I I give the gas as much as I can. I have achieved a victory, two consecutive podiums, I am only seven points behind the leader of the championship… But it does not depend on me, since I cannot control it, what has to be, will be”.

Happily married, with two wonderful children, one on his lap during the media appearance, passionate about cycling… from the outside Aleix seems to be the MotoGP rider with the best organized personal life, to the point that, if he gets tired of the current situation, go.

“As you say. I am very happy doing what I like, living the life I want to live, I am very lucky, I am not saying that others are not, but I am the luckiest in the paddock to have the family that I have and, if it’s the last year, then it will be the last year. I’m enjoying it a lot and I’m competitive, but it doesn’t depend on me, so whatever it has to be, it will be”.

“I would like to continue two more years in MotoGP but, if not, I would know what to do, there is life beyond this paddock,” he added.

Finally, Aleix Espargaró also gave his opinion on the news of Suzuki leaving the World Championship at the end of the year.

“This is elite sport, everything is more complicated than it seems and anything can happen. To all this we must add that we live in the world at a very complicated time, sadly, but it is reality. The pandemic has been combined with a crisis and there are many factors. I would like to continue because it has cost me a lot to reach the level I am at now, but if I have learned anything in recent years, it is that you cannot be confused by things that you cannot control”, settled the boy from Granollers.
