After Fernando Alonso managed to come back in an epic way to reach seventh place after a serious accident with Lance Stroll during the 2022 F1 United States Grand Prix race, the Haas team filed a protest with the FIA where they claimed that the The Asturian driver’s single-seater had technical irregularities, specifically because parts of his car were damaged and he continued in the race without necessarily having to go through the pitlane.

The international federation, after an investigation of several hours, concluded that the Spaniard should be sanctioned with 30 seconds, which would make him fall to 15th place , outside the points zone. His team, knowing that, filed another protest in response to Haas, and at noon in Austin, the governing body ruled.

The stewards, after studying the case, informed both teams that they were obliged to testify before them on the weekend of the Mexican Grand Prix before making a final decision.

“A member of the team is called to attend via videoconference on Thursday, October 24 [in the FIA document there is an error and it would be on the 27th] at 6:00 p.m. Mexico City time in relation to the following”, could be read.

“To determine the admissibility or otherwise of the protest filed at 10:01 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, by the BWT Alpine F1 Team against the decision of the 2022 United States GP stewards to consider the protest filed by Haas F1 admissible Team”, was explained in the reasons.

“A video link will be sent to all interested parties. In the event that the protest filed by Alpine is deemed admissible, a separate hearing will be convened, and all parties will be informed of the time and date,” the document concluded.
