Gardner: "I don't understand how Binder does it"

Remy Gardner lives his last grand prix as a MotoGP rider. At least for the moment. The Australian rider, Moto2 world champion in 2021 and son of the legendary Wayne Gardner, did not finish adapting to the KTM in the premier class, and he starred in one of the great soap operas of this silly season .

So far this season, Gardner has only added nine points, one more than his teammate, Raúl Fernández. Faced with the poor performance of the debutant duo, who we must remember are completing their first campaign in the premier class, stands out against Brad Binder, current spearhead of the Austrian project.

Without going any further, the South African finished the Aragón race in fourth place, after an intense battle with Aleix Espargaró for the last place on the podium. When Remy was asked prior to the Japanese Grand Prix if he could learn from Binder, he had to admit he doesn’t know how he does it.

“I don’t understand how Brad does it. He has a very different style to the rest of the [KTM] riders. He enters the corners sliding and with the brakes on. Obviously he has a different set up. I don’t know if the rest can, but I I’m not able to make that work, but there will be circuits that benefit us.”

But Motegi will not be one of those favorable tracks. “Where we are going to suffer the most is on the straights, with all the stop&go curves. We already suffered in Aragón”. The Australian entrusts himself to the rain, which he assures will “help” him. Regarding the fact that a large part of the grid has not competed on the Japanese track with a MotoGP, Remy does not think much will change: “It will be like in Indonesia”.

Gardner took advantage of a question about how he stays motivated to leave a message for those responsible for his departure from KTM: “I think you always have to give your best, both for yourself and for the team. Because I’m a professional. In my mind at least”. “I’ve bought new pants,” he said between laughs.
