Gardner: "My future in MotoGP doesn't look good; KTM has done it again"

The Australian rider spoke this Sunday in Austria about his current situation within the KTM structure, of which he is part as a pilot of the Tech3 satellite team, assuring that he does not see clearly that he can continue in the queen class next year, after only a year in the series after having won the Moto2 champion crown for the orange brand.

The Spielberg weekend was a hive of meetings, comings and goings of teams and representatives and some announcements, such as the one made by the Mattighofen-based team, confirming the signing of Pol Espargaró and the name change of the satellite structure, which in 2023 will run under the name of GasGas.

In that same press conference, the factory’s sports director, Pit Beirer , hinted that the door is still open for Miguel Oliveira and this Saturday the runner’s father, who is his manager, met with the CEO of KTM, Stefan Pierer , which offered him to continue in the structure as a pilot for the GasGas Tech3 team, forming a partnership with Pol.

That would automatically leave the two young debutants this season in the French formation out of the competition, Raúl Fernández, who already has an agreement to go to RNF Aprilia, and Remy Gardner, who had always thought he would stay for a year. more in that box.

However, this change in orientation at Mattighofen, betting on seasoned drivers and discarding young talent, has left Remy without much of an option when almost all the seats for 2023 are taken.

“My future in MotoGP doesn’t look good, there seems to be no room for me next year on the grid. KTM has done it again. That’s all I can say,” admitted the Sydney runner.

As has already been explained, this Sunday Pierer held a meeting with Raúl Fernández to unclog the situation of the Madrilenian, from which an agreement emerged so that the Spaniard can be released and sign for RNF-Aprilia, supposedly paying a clause of exhaust.

In this operation, it is assumed that KTM has reached a kind of agreement with Aprilia so that it cancels its agreement with Oliveira and the Portuguese continues with the Austrian manufacturer, which has offered him a succulent economic offer, much higher than the Italian one.

If Pierer’s plan takes effect (something really complicated), there would be a free place in the garage of the team led by Razlan Razali, although the decision of the drivers is made by Noale. However, initially, Gardner’s name is not taken into consideration for that position, nor is the continuity of Darryn Binder considered, although there are not many more options in the current market for MotoGP riders, so it would not surprise Razali try to convince Aprilia to fish in SBK, even some important rider with a contract in that category for 2023.
