Google will allow cryptocurrency wallets to run ads

Since August, wallets will be allowed to post ads as long as they go through the company's certification process.

Google, the world's largest digital advertising vendor, will allow companies offering cryptocurrency wallets to serve ads on its platforms.

In 2018, Google banned ads for cryptocurrencies and related products, following a similar move by Facebook Inc.But Google soon removed that restriction for digital currency exchanges.

Starting in August, Google will allow wallets to serve ads on their searches, YouTube, and other properties as long as they go through the company's certification process.

Google is making the change "to better accommodate existing FinCEN regulations and requirements," as the US Financial Crime Control Network is known, a spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday.

In a blog post, Google specified that the ad ban still exists for initial coin offerings and services that add or compare cryptocurrency issuers.
