If you’re looking for something a little more local than the expat-dominated bars of Lan Kwai Fong and Wan Chai, then you should venture off Hong Kong Island to Knutsford Terrace in Tsim Sha Tsui. This strip of bars and restaurants offers a more diverse mix of locals, expats, and tourists, while still offering plenty of options. There are around thirty crowded eating and drinking places along the street and in the nearby Observatory Court.

You’ll find it crowded for lunch and dinner, with diners taking the opportunity to sit on balconies and street-facing seating. Things don’t heat up until later and you’ll happily find food until at least 10pm and drinks until after midnight.
The restaurants are a mix of international offerings. The group’s choice is Munch. It reflects almost every aspect of Hong Kong’s confused intercultural identity; with crisp white linen napkins paired with faux leather tablecloths and hints of Hong Kong on European classics, like scallops with a water chestnut jelly. But the food is a hit and the prices are fair. For a place that mixes drinking and eating a little better, look out for Apgujeong Korean Bar. You’ll find grilled and roasted beef in all directions and a crowd washing up decent food with frozen HITE bottles.
Hands down the most famous stop on the Knutsford Terrace trail is Bahama Mamas, where the beach-themed bar seems to keep the crowd firmly in party mode. The food is mostly a disaster, but for the rocket-propelled cocktails and a carnival atmosphere that runs late into the night, it can’t be beat. Also worth checking out, around the corner is the Observatory Court area, home to a growing number of bars. Look out for 8 fine Irish.
