Wind speeds of up to 175 kilometers per hour and heavy rain: a hurricane moves further west over Mexico.

Xalapa – Hurricane "Grace" reached the east coast of the mainland early on Saturday (local time) after passing through the Mexican peninsula of Yucatán.

The US hurricane center in Miami issued a warning for the area from the city of Veracruz in the state of the same name to Cabo Rojo in the north of the state, according to the latest situation report.

For the whole weekend "Grace" will move westward over the mainland with winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour and heavy rain. The hurricane center warned of landslides and floods in addition to Veracruz in several Mexican states, including Puebla and Hidalgo.

“Grace” hit the Mexican Yucatán peninsula, which is popular with holidaymakers, as a storm on Thursday morning (local time). It caused damage and extensive power outages, but people were not harmed. Before its second passage over Mexico, which had now begun, the tropical cyclone "Grace" had gained strength and had again been upgraded to a hurricane. dpa
