Márquez: "I won't say what happened in Austin; I don't know if Honda can say it"

Portimao.-  The hermeticism continues around the ‘mechanical problem’ that caused Marc Márquez to get stuck at the start of the Grand Prix of the Americas and had to come back from the last position in which he arrived at the first corner of the race, to the sixth end position.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t say what the problem was with the bike (on the grid in Austin), I don’t know if Honda can say. It was something that in ten years that I’ve been in MotoGP had never happened to me, and it happened when the most I needed help,” said the Spaniard when asked if he could explain what happened.

Marc Márquez, who staged an epic comeback, arrived at the box where the whole team was waiting for him applauding, immediately afterwards he entered the garage and closed the shutter.

“When I arrived I told the team that in 10 years we have never had any problems with the bike and that these are things that can happen, we continue forward looking towards Portimao,” he explained the conversation with his team.

“Sometimes I have been the one who has made many mistakes, I have fallen many times, like in Indonesia, where I did it four times, and the mechanics have never complained or made a bad face, on the contrary, they have always worked with a smile. We all work in the same direction and we are together in the good times and in those that are not, “he added.

“Honda has found the problem and they have solved it for the future. Now it’s time to think about Portimao and continue with our progression.”

A progression that Marc will try to consolidate in a circuit where he has only raced once, last year, reappearing after a year of injury.

“Last year we had a very good comeback after the injury, it wasn’t an easy year, but we are here to compete, we don’t have many references, I have only raced once, but both Alex (Márquez) and Pol Espargaró have been quick here and It’s time to reconfirm if we can continue in the Austin line.”

As for how he will face the weekend, if in the key of calm or attack, Márquez gave a little bit of the key to the question.

“The best thing is to approach the weekend without any expectations, we have to try to understand and continue working with the bike and after the warm up we will know where we are”, he said first.

“One thing is the focus on Thursday, and here I will have the same as in Austin, but if in the first lap I feel good, attacking is in my DNA. In Austin I controlled myself to survive, here I feel better physically and the conditions of rain can also help since they are not so demanding, I feel prepared,” he added.

“I like Portimao, it’s a circuit where you have to flow, with elevation changes, strange corners, last year I had a hard time understanding it well, I remember I was here talking to Miguel Oliveira and he told me that you have to flow on the track , if you achieve it, it’s easy, but if you fight with the bike, everything gets complicated”, settled the one from Cervera.
