It looks like Jack Miller is in for a sweet spot with Ducati . After a somewhat disappointing start to the season, the Australian rider has managed to return to the top positions, displaying a consistency rarely seen in him.
Miller has battled for the podium in the last three races, achieving it at Sachsenring and Silverstone. This will be his last campaign at the home of Borgo Panigale, and the changes made in the Montmeló tests seem to have helped him find the missing tenths.
Returning to the Austrian GP, the Ducati rider, with the exception of FP4, has ridden in positions of honor throughout the weekend. Those good sessions capped off with a front row grid for tomorrow’s race, having qualified with the third fastest time in Q2.
“We have the unknown of the chicane, which will make everything more chaotic, so it was important to start from the front, without so many bikes nearby. That will help us,” said Miller in the press conference after the qualifying session. “I have been very fast in all the sessions and in all the conditions”, added the Australian.
The truth is that few would be surprised if the number #43 climbs to the top of the podium tomorrow. “I think I have a good rhythm,” Miller acknowledged. “Tomorrow is going to be a Silverstone-style race, so it will be important to be at the front and avoid making mistakes. That’s the most important thing, and in FP4 we found a good rhythm.”
“But we’ll have to find some more [rhythm], because I’m sure the others are going to work tonight to improve their speed,” laughed Jack.
Also, Miller was a little miffed when it was suggested that the Ducatis are flying over the Red Bull Ring. “It’s not just a Ducati thing. Fabio is also going super fast. And Maverick and Aleix are there too,” he said.
