BMW is celebrating, and has not wanted to leave untied end in its 50th anniversary. The Dorna Sports partner, to whom it has been supplying Safety Cars since 1999, has decided to retrofit its BMW M2 CS Racing into a Safety Car for the 2022 MotoGP season.

In its more than two decades providing uninterrupted safety cars to the world championship, all belonging to the BMW M family, the Bavarians have gone from the 1999 Z3 M Coupé to the new M2 CS Racing, going through models such as the Z8, the Z4 M, the M2 or the M5.

The BMW M2 CS Racing replaces the trio of pace cars for the 2021 MotoGP season, consisting of the BMW M3 Competition, BMW M4 Competition Coupé and BMW M5 CS.

The new Safety Car, as you can see in the images, will carry the classic red, light blue and dark blue colors along with white, which identify them as members of BMW’s M Motorsport division.

It is the first time that a racing car will evolve to serve as a safety car in the motorcycling world championship. Used in various world and national disciplines and categories, the BMW M2 CS Racing has undergone few changes to suit its new role, with only the light bars and headlights necessary for its function as a Safety Car added.

In addition to the BMW M2 CS Racing, BMW will supply five safety cars and two safety motorcycles, as well as a fully electric BMW i4 M50 for the MotoE World Cup.

That last one will not hit the track until May 1 in Jerez, for the first grand prix of the electric category, while all the others will be ready to roll from March 6 at the Qatar Grand Prix that opens the 2022 course. on the Losai L circuit .
