A console that arrived at the turn of the decade, when we turned to the year 2000 and that changed everything. It took video games to unexpected corners, broke absurd barriers, made the console a common device for many, saw the birth of social games, unforgettable franchises, the birth and high point of the DVD … and this week we celebrate that it has reached 150 million units sold.
Do you know how brutal those figures are? A true bestiality only within the reach of the greatest. And it is that yes, there are other consoles that occupy our hearts and that with only a couple of years in the market and after a resounding failure they have already left us marked, but PlayStation 2 has achieved it because of its perseverance.
At the end of November 2000 it was released in Europe and as an example of its great popularity ‘Great Theft Auto: San Andreas’ (the game that has sold the most on the console) has managed to place more than 20 million copies to date . And it is that to a large extent, and I give as an example what happened in Spain, PlayStation 2 was the “culprit” that a whole generation said “I have a Play” when in reality they were saying “I have a console whatever the brand ”.
There is a generation of PlayStation 2, no doubt. It is no wonder, the console has been with us for 11 years and although its last breath of life is already blowing, it will go down in history.
